So my sister liz asked me to tell the story of the outhouse on the second house we built.
--June, 1985--
there we were moving onto the property. had just enough of a driveway to get a camper and a travel trailer on the property to live in while we built. of course steve was really excited to get moving on clearing and building. "yeah, yeah, yeah, let's go!" "Whoa, whoa, whoa buddy, we need an outhouse first." say my sis and I.
Well this discussion when on for a while, broken only by steve stepping conveniently into the woods to pee and stepping back out barely missing a beat.
Now, I have to say... i ain't afraid of peeing in the woods. there are plenty of pictures of me peeing in the woods, thanks to various family members who actually think they are not only cute, but original. (you got one of those?...yeah, everybody does...)
I digress.
So liz and i gather up some scraps of wood, a handsaw, some nails and a hammer and we start fumbling around over the hole we dug and "building" an outhouse. steve said we looked like two monkeys, er, uh...well let's just say it was a reference to a football with a monkey at each end.
so, he comes cussing up the trail and proceeds to build an outhouse. after he was finished he said, "there. there's your outhouse Girls." well liz took that literally and the next morning when she woke up and found out steve was sitting on the 'toilet' in her outhouse, she was pissed (w/ a big grin), she winked at me and headed down the trail shouting to steve that she was coming to take a photo of him. Shy steve was fa-reakin' out that liz was coming down the trail.
it was pretty funny.
now steve always listens when i suggest the order in which things should happen.
WELCOME!
Stories... about living life in Alaska and building a house in the extraordinary Knik Glacier Valley of the Chugach Mountains.
...and maybe some Thoughts or Ideas about how we can make a difference in the world, even from the end of the road.
